What if we made a Free Partial Membership that only allows the ability to see Certain Forums? No LIVE Chat, Hooligans Alley, Arcade, Groups, Or Messaging System. But people would be able to join the site and be encouraged to get a Full Membership, while also being able to engage with all of you in Forum Discussion. There would be Forums for everyone and then Forums that require a Full Membership to see and participate in.

Just do it. If it works and gets you some bonus paid memberships, great! If not, back to the drawing board.

If they would like to see the full site they could just upgrade their membership to a paid one and it would unlock the rest of the features for them š
You could tease them with your little stripper girl pen and tell them to subscribe to see more.
Having a base / open tier - like Discord - then having the membership tier with the premium part - sounds like a wonderful idea to me... have the folks coming to YOUR site, not some other (again, like Discord) , seems completely logical and makes perfect sense.
