So we went into town (Rome) today, police everywhere, main train station closed… there were riots and protests due to aid not getting through to Gaza… we went right back home.

Tear gas was deployed when crowds attempted to push into secured areas, and multiple train cancellations and delays were reported. The strike, organized by far-left unions was pro-Palestinian in nature with a significant migrant presence. It impacted public transport, ports, schools and services across Italy. Major urban hubs such as Rome, Naples, Milan, Turin, Florence and Genoa saw dramatic slowdowns. In Milan specifically, the M4 metro line was shut down temporarily, commuter and regional trains were disrupted, and hundreds of demonstrators held sit-ins blocking university entrances before moving toward central transit hubs. Authorities estimate turnout for the strike was under 7 percent of the working population nationwide, while regional rail service in Milan dropped by about 25 percent. Termini station in Rome was closed, Port of Genoa and Naples Central also saw blocked access. In Milan the station entrances were among the flashpoints for confrontation, with protestors throwing objects and demanding transportation and foreign policy changes."
